Under the Stars

After spending a little over a month in South America I'm back home and ready to edit some images.
The past month was spent backpacking through some of the most amazing landscapes that I've seen in my life. In Southern Chile and Argentina the leaves are changing and winter is approaching.
During the trip we experienced an array of different conditions from snow and 65 mph winds to 80 degree sunny days, with some additional sleet, rain, and anything else you can imagine.
The temps would swing from 25 degrees to 75 degrees all within 24 hours. Overall the weather down there is extremely dynamic and makes the Pacific Northwest look like a cake walk.
So far I've edited 10 shots from the trip in the past 3 days, and this is the first one that I'd like to share. I passed out in my tent just after sunset this particular night and waited for the Moon to rise and light up the towers that you see in the distant left. With a nearly full moon I didn't even need a headlamp as I approached this glacial lake which is perched high above my campsite.
Waking at 11PM it was freezing cold and the wind was blowing pretty hard. After climbing 1500 feet to reach this location I plenty warm. The fresh snow sparkles in the Moon light and gives off a dreamy look to the entire landscape. Believe it or not, under the night sky the glacier lake is an emerald green.
Torres Cental, the largest tower seen, comes in at 2800 meters or approx. 9186 feet tall. When you're up there at night you can hear the rocks and glaciers crashing all around you, the wind howls, no one else is around. As a photographer these are the times that I'll never forget, but it never hurts to take a photo anyways...
Hope you enjoy,
Dave
